Highlands of Iceland Base Camp is in Hólaskjól Highland Centre, at the edge of the highlands of the South Coast of Iceland.
Hólaskjól Highland Center serves as our base camp for many of our highland tours. Our location provides unique access to the Highlands of South Iceland and the National Park Vatnajökull and the Fjallabak Nature Reserve area.
In Hólaskjól is a campsite, a mountain hut with sleeping bag accommodation and a few cabins. Service is in Hólaskjól during the summertime. There is a small store providing basic needed stuff café, soft drinks, and snacks.
During the wintertime, Hólaskjól is open for groups.
The road to Hólaskjól from the South Coast main road number 1 is passable for all cars during the summertime. The last 20 km is an F road but without rivers to cross to Hólaskól. Going further into the Highlands requires 4×4 cars because there are rivers to cross, and the road becomes more demanding.

You can not reach the higlands on a regular vehicle like a standard car from a carental. You will need to drive a 4×4 SUV or by highland bus.
